Lovable vs Replit vs Bolt for a Startup Website
Lovable, Replit and Bolt are AI app builders. They can produce a working website from a prompt, but the result is code you or a developer must edit, host and maintain. This page publishes the test we use to compare them on a real website brief, with sourced plan facts and results added as they are run.
Evidence labels on this page. Sourced comes from the platform’s own documentation or pricing page, checked October 5, 2026. Editorial is ShoutEx judgement. Not yet tested means the check is on our published test plan with no result yet. Method: how we evaluate platforms.
Which is best for a startup website: Lovable, Replit or Bolt?
For a marketing website, none replaces a CMS or visual builder, because content edits need prompts or code. For an interactive tool, prototype or app-like site, all three can work. Lovable is closest to a guided product for non-developers, Bolt to a fast in-browser builder, and Replit to a full development and hosting environment.
| Area | Lovable | Replit | Bolt | Label |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | Pro from $25/mo | Core $20/mo ($18 yearly) | Pro $25/mo | Sourced |
| Billing unit | Credits | Credits plus usage-based deployments | Tokens | Sourced |
| Custom domain | On Pro | Through deployments | On Pro | Sourced |
| Code out | GitHub sync and code download | Full workspace | GitHub integration | Sourced |
| Best suited to | Non-developers building apps | Teams that want hosting and code together | Fast prototypes | Editorial |
What do the plans include?
Lovable’s plan documentation lists Pro from $25 a month with custom domains, code editing and GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket sync. Replit Core is $20 a month, and its deployment pricing bills hosting separately, from free static deployments with $0.05 per GB of data transfer to reserved machines from $15 a month. Bolt Pro is $25 a month with hosting and custom domains, and Bolt’s GitHub integration lets you publish elsewhere.
All three change plans often. Every fact here was checked on the vendor’s own pages on October 5, 2026.
How do we test them on the same website brief?
We give each tool the same written brief, on its entry paid plan, and record eight checks. The brief describes a five-page SaaS marketing site with a form, metadata, a sitemap and a mobile layout. The pass marks focus on what happens after launch: editing, rendering, handoff and monthly cost.
TEST BRIEF v1.0 (ShoutEx, published October 5, 2026) Build a marketing website for Northwind, a fictional B2B route-planning SaaS. Pages: Home, Product, Pricing (3 tiers), Blog index with 2 posts, Contact. Requirements: - Unique <title> and meta description on every page - Readable URLs: /product, /pricing, /blog/post-slug - Contact form that sends to sales@northwind.example - Mobile layout that works at 375 px wide - Analytics tag in the <head> - XML sitemap and robots.txt Rules: same prompt text in every tool, paid entry plan, no manual code edits until step 6, timer starts at the first prompt.
| Step | What we record | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|
| 1. First draft | Prompts, credits or tokens, minutes | All five pages exist |
| 2. Content in HTML | View source on each page | H1 and body copy present without running JavaScript |
| 3. Metadata | Titles, descriptions, canonical | Unique on every page |
| 4. Form | Submit a test enquiry | Email received |
| 5. Non-developer edit | Change pricing and add a blog post | Done without code in under 15 minutes |
| 6. Handoff | Export or GitHub sync, run locally | Builds without errors |
| 7. Publish | Custom domain, HTTPS, sitemap URL | Live and fetchable |
| 8. Monthly cost | Plan, credits used, hosting | Recorded |
What are the results so far?
We have not run this test yet, so no result is claimed. When it is run, each cell will show the outcome and the date, and the raw notes will be published with it. You can run the same test yourself with the brief above and record results in the SEO checklist spreadsheet. The rendering and metadata checks match those in our SEO comparison, and you can score the tools alongside other platforms in the decision matrix.

Judge the second month, not the first hour.
Every tool is impressive on the first prompt. Editing, hosting and handoff costs show up later.
What does handoff to a developer need?
Plan handoff before you build. A developer needs the code in a repository, a list of services and keys used, a way to run it locally and a hosting plan. AI-generated code also needs a security review before real users log in or pay. Security and handoff are covered in handing off to a developer; the broader choice is in AI builders vs a CMS.
- Code in a repository you own.
- List of services, API keys and environment variables.
- Instructions to run and deploy.
- Known issues and missing features.
- Who pays for and controls hosting and the domain.
