Google Ads for dentists

Emergency Dental Google Ads Campaigns

Emergency searches are the most urgent clicks a clinic can buy and the easiest to waste. This page shows how to schedule them to the hours you can answer, build a call-first flow, set location targeting and handle the searches that arrive after you close.

How should a dental clinic run an emergency Google Ads campaign?

Run emergency dental ads as a separate campaign with its own budget and schedule, a call-first ad, a dedicated emergency landing page and tight location targeting. Keep it apart from new-patient and service campaigns so it can switch off when the phones close without touching the rest of the account.

The campaign sells speed and certainty: someone will answer, and they will tell you when you can be seen. It should not sell a promise the clinic cannot keep. Many emergency patients have no regular dentist, so a good first visit can become a long-term patient; emergency dental marketing covers that follow-up.

How to read the tree: the emergency campaign has its own small radius and its own hours; the new-patient campaign runs longer and wider. The clinic and pages are fictional.

How do you schedule emergency dental ads to opening hours?

Schedule emergency ads to the hours someone is answering the phone and able to offer a time, which is often shorter than opening hours. Start ads a few minutes after the desk is staffed and stop them before the last appointment slot, so late callers are not told to come back tomorrow after you paid for the click.

Mornings and Saturdays often carry the most urgent searches, because people wake up in pain or break a tooth at the weekend. Check your own call log before raising bids; the pattern differs by neighbourhood. Schedule the call asset to the same hours.

What does a call-first emergency flow look like?

A call-first flow puts the phone number in the ad, at the top of the landing page and in the page's first button, so a patient in pain can reach a person in one tap. We build it with a responsive search ad and a scheduled call asset rather than relying on a separate call-only format, so the same ad can also send people to the emergency page.

Broken Tooth? Call Riverbend | General Dentists in Hamilton

General dentists. We will give you the earliest time we can see you. Upper James St.

Call
Wording that stays honest: "the earliest time we can see you" works on a quiet day and a busy one. The call button carries most of the clicks on a phone.

Train whoever answers to offer a time on the first call. Our call and booking tracking guide shows how to record which calls booked.

What should happen to emergency searches after hours?

After hours, either pause the emergency campaign or switch to a version that sets honest expectations: a form or voicemail with a firm callback time. Do not let an ad that says "call now" run when nobody can answer. Whatever you choose, the page should tell people when a hospital emergency department is the right place.

OptionHow it worksGood forWatch out for
PauseCampaign off outside answering hoursMost clinicsMissed searches; usually acceptable

Have your dentists write the after-hours wording, including when to go to hospital. Keep it on the page, not in the ad, where there is no room to say it properly.

ShoutEx rule

Run emergency ads only when a human can answer.

An emergency click that reaches voicemail is paid for twice: once in ad spend and once in the patient who calls the next clinic on the list.

How wide should the location target be for emergency dental ads?

Keep emergency targeting tight: the distance patients will realistically travel while in pain, often smaller than your new-patient area. Use Google's advanced location options to target people in or regularly in your area, rather than people who are interested in it, so a search mentioning your city from elsewhere does not trigger the ad.

  • Radius by travel time: think in minutes by car or transit, not kilometres. A river, highway or bridge can split a catchment.
  • Exclude areas you cannot serve quickly, even inside the city limits.
  • Watch the location report after two weeks and trim areas with calls that rarely book.
  • Check local detail: city pages such as Hamilton and Halifax describe how catchments differ.

Can emergency dental ads use remarketing or audiences?

No remarketing. Google's personalized advertising policy treats health as a sensitive category, so health advertisers cannot use remarketing lists, Customer Match, audience expansion or lookalike segments. Google's own audiences, such as location, demographics, in-market and life events, are still allowed.

For emergency campaigns that limit matters less than it sounds. The searcher has just told you exactly what they need, so keywords, schedule and location do the targeting. Audience segments are better used for observation, to see who books, than for narrowing who sees the ad. The general rules for dental ad wording are on dental advertising rules by province, and emergency keywords are listed on Google Ads keywords for dentists.

Frequently asked questions

Should dental clinics run emergency Google Ads?

Yes, if someone can answer the phone and offer a time quickly. Emergency searches have urgent intent, and many callers have no regular dentist.

When should emergency dental ads run?

During the hours someone is answering the phone, which is often shorter than opening hours. Stop before the last bookable slot.

Can I promise same-day emergency appointments?

Only if you can keep the promise every day. Most clinics say they will offer the earliest available time, which stays accurate on busy days.

Should emergency ads run at night?

Only if a dentist is genuinely on call or you run a form-only version with a firm morning callback. Do not pay for calls that reach voicemail.

Can I use remarketing for emergency dental ads?

No. Health is a sensitive category in Google's personalized advertising policy, so remarketing and customer lists are not available.

How far should emergency dental ads reach?

As far as patients will travel while in pain, usually a smaller area than your new-patient campaign. Target people in or regularly in that area.

Should emergency ads use the word "painless"?

No. It promises an outcome, which conflicts with RCDSO and NSRDDA rules on guarantees and unjustified expectations. Describe the service and the next step instead.

Are emergency patients worth the cost?

Judge them on first-visit fees plus how many return for regular care. Many become long-term patients if the first visit goes well.
