Analytics Dashboards That Founders Use

Most analytics dashboards go unread because they show everything. A good one shows a few numbers that lead to decisions, with the same definitions every week. Build one weekly scorecard first, then add detail only when someone asks a question.

Raw GA4 data for custom reports comes from the BigQuery export in GA4 setup; product data from PostHog.

How do you build a weekly scorecard?

One row per metric, one column per week, with an owner for each number. Keep marketing, product and revenue together so nobody optimizes one at the expense of another. Board-level reporting is covered in the marketing board report, and metric definitions in SaaS marketing metrics.

How do you keep numbers trusted?

  • Write the definition under each metric.
  • Note tracking changes on the dashboard, with dates.
  • Expect GA4, ad platforms and the CRM to disagree; pick one source per metric.
  • Check consent rates, since denied consent lowers counts; see consent and privacy.
  • Review stray UTM values monthly; see UTM tracking.
Founder rule

A dashboard should end in a decision.

If a chart never changes what you do, remove it.

How do you run a monthly review?

  1. Look at the trend for each scorecard metric.
  2. Pick the one number that moved most and ask why.
  3. Agree on one action for the next month.
  4. Note any tracking issues and assign a fix.
  5. Remove any chart nobody used.

Which dashboard tool should I use?

How many metrics should be on a dashboard?
